Originally from India and now based in New Zealand, Lassi Lady founder Rupa brings together a unique blend of scientific expertise, entrepreneurial spirit and a lifelong passion for food. After years working in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, her love of authentic Indian flavours inspired her to create a business that celebrates culture, connection and quality.
Rupa was born from a family tradition of enjoying premium Organic Alphonso mango pulp, brought from India by her parents. Inspired by these authentic flavours, she developed a range of delicious lassis, combining rich Indian Alphonso mangoes with New Zealand-made yoghurt. Today, the range includes Mango, Strawberry and Vanilla Lassi, with new flavours in development. The business is a true family venture, with her son Aryan helping at markets and contributing fresh ideas to the brand’s digital presence.
Joining The Kitchen Project was a turning point for the business. Seeking practical knowledge, mentorship and confidence to turn an idea into reality, she found invaluable support, guidance and a community of like-minded food entrepreneurs. The programme helped strengthen both her business skills and belief in the potential of Lassi Lady.
Looking ahead, her vision is to grow Lassi Lady into a recognised New Zealand brand, with a range of convenient bottled lassis available nationwide. With a focus on sustainability, innovation and authentic flavour, she hopes to share the richness of Indian food culture with even more people, one bottle at a time.
