With experience in food production, Jonathan has experienced first-hand the true costs of consumerism; the emphasis of high output mass-produced factory foods, with little consideration to sustainability and individual customer preferences. During his time working in Europe, Jonathan ate a lot of granola and muesli as a healthy snack option- and became used to the vast range of organic and wholesome food selections that were widely available overseas. After moving back home he came up with the idea for Harvest, an organic granola business.

Jonathan’s vision for Harvest is to create customised granola mixes for his customers, catering to individual dietary requirements such as gluten-free, paleo or diabetics. With a focus on wholesome, organic ingredients and sustainable packaging, Jonathan wants his customers to have the freedom of blending their favourite flavours to create a delicious, healthy snack.

While looking online for a commercial kitchen to help with his production, Jonathan came across The Kitchen Project. Reading about the support offered, Jonathan decided to apply and was accepted into the programme. “It was great to have guidance and to work with other food entrepreneurs as we all go on the same journey of building our businesses.” Another key highlight for Jonathan was the opportunity to try the range of delicious and unique food his cohort were creating.

In the future Jonathan hopes to have his own kitchen facility, with his business offering a range of wholesome, organic, and sustainable foods. You can order Jonathan’s customised granola via his website: https://harvestfoods.co.nz and every Saturday you can find Jonathan’s granola at the Shed Collective market in Oratia.
